With the Highest Quality Timber Veneer, You Can Add a Touch of Elegance and the Sensibilities of Pure Hoop Pine to Your Projects
Timber veneer is a popular surfacing material that is widely used for decorative and distinguishing purposes. Over solid wood, timber veneer panelling has some distinct advantages. It is less expensive, more environmentally friendly, and less likely to warp or crack. To conceal the unfinished, rough edge of a veneer board, timber veneer is used for edge banding. Different grain patterns in timber veneer can be obtained by using different cuts, such as crown cut, quarter cut, and rotary cut. The quarter cut features a series of straight lines with the grain, whereas the rotary cut features a multi-hued, swirling grain design.
Major types of timber veneer:
Raw veneer: Has no backing and as such can be used with either
side facing up.
Laid up veneer: Consists of raw veneers that have been combined to
make large pieces.
Phenolic backed veneer: An environment-friendly artificial wood veneer.
Reconstituted veneer: Reconstituted veneer is manufactured from
fast-growing tropical species of plants.
Benefits of using timber veneer
1. Timber veneer lends warm colour tones, texture and
ambience to a space. It can be dyed, stained or painted to get the desired
aesthetic effects. When mixed tastefully with flooring hues, textures and wall
paint, you can create a feeling of extra warmth at a fraction of the cost that
a variety of natural woods combined would provide.
2. Because of the grain and depth of colour, timber
veneer offers more visual volume and texture to surfaces and shapes on which it
is used. To provide a hint of playfulness, some woodworkers use irregular
grains to subdue and lighten the strict formality of linear designs.
3. Timber veneer finishes offer the sensibilities and
look of pure and expensive solid wood at a fraction of the cost of solid wood.
Timber veneer can be combined with natural building materials such as marble to
provide a consistent look to your interiors and exteriors.
4. Timber veneer is much more than just thin
decorative covering of fine wood applied to a coarser solid wood. It helps in
increasing the life of your woodwork as it does not crack or warp easily.
Fire-rated timber veneer can resist the spread of flames for up to three hours,
thus providing building occupants enough time to run to safety.
Hoop pine plywood stands apart
Hoop pine (Araucaria Cunninghamii) is a native
Australian species of NSW and Queensland. It has straight grain while texture
could be from fine to very fine. It provides light-coloured and warm appearance
to your projects. The tree has a straight cylindrical trunk and grows up to 50
m in height. Bark of mature hoop pine tree is rough and dark brown to nearly
black. Heartwood ranges from pale cream to light yellow-brown with a little
difference between heartwood and sapwood.
Growth rings are usually visible but indistinct. There is very gradual
transition from earlywood to latewood. The tree has smooth and very uniform
texture.
The grain of hoop pine plywood is very fine and
even textured. It machines and turns well to a smooth surface. The plywood can
be satisfactorily bonded using standard procedures and fixes well with standard
fittings and fastenings. Sapwood readily accepts commercial preservatives and
can be painted to protect from borers. It can be easily finished and sanded but
not resistant to rot. So, not recommended for use in humid areas. Hoop pine plywood is used in decorative
furniture, carving, turnery and joinery. It is also used in boat building,
arrow shafts, brushware, wood wool, blind rollers, and aircraft construction.
Different grades of hoop pine
plywood and their uses
AC grade hoop pine plywood can be used for non-structural
interior applications and acoustic panels where a high-quality aesthetic finish
is desired. It provides excellent multi-edge detail for a variety of joinery
applications. AC grade hoop pine plywood has a higher-grade face and
lesser-grade back. Its consistent and uniform surface makes it ideal for clear
water-based finishing.
BB grade hoop pine plywood is a structurally rated marine
timber. It is recommended for use in applications where edge features are
important.
AA grade hoop pine plywood is a designated marine species
which is suitable for use in marine applications where high strength and
durability are required.
